AdventHealth Winter Garden: The Full-Service Hospital on Fowler Grove Boulevard
How a freestanding ER quietly grew into West Orange County's newest hospital — and what's about to change in 2026

AdventHealth Winter Garden is a full-service hospital located at 2000 Fowler Grove Boulevard, Winter Garden, FL 34787, in West Orange County. Originally opened as a freestanding ER and outpatient facility in February 2016, the campus added an inpatient tower with 80 licensed beds in May 2022. The hospital currently operates 96 licensed beds, a 24/7 emergency department, inpatient surgery, cardiology, imaging, and a multi-specialty clinic, and functions as a hospital department of AdventHealth Orlando. A $145 million, three-floor expansion currently under construction will bring labor and delivery to the campus for the first time and increase the hospital to 176 licensed beds when it opens in September 2026, alongside a separate $43.2 million, 60,000-square-foot Cancer Institute opening in summer 2026.
Drive down State Road 429 near the Hamlin exit and you can't miss it: a tan, multi-story tower rising over Fowler Grove Boulevard with cranes still hovering above the roofline. That's AdventHealth Winter Garden — and it's having a much bigger moment than most West Orange County residents realize.
Most people don't know it didn't start as a hospital. In 2016 it opened as a freestanding ER and outpatient facility. That story has changed, and it's still changing.
From Freestanding ER to Full-Service Hospital: The Fast Version
The Fowler Grove campus opened in February 2016 as Florida Hospital Winter Garden — a 97,000-square-foot, three-story building anchored by a 24-bed ER, an outpatient surgery center, imaging, a lab, and a multi-specialty clinic. The closest full-service hospital was Orlando Health Health Central in Ocoee — fine if you live there, longer if you live in Hamlin or eastern Winter Garden.
In 2019, Florida Hospital (which became AdventHealth that year) broke ground on a five-story, 80-bed inpatient tower attached to the existing ER. It opened May 3, 2022. Overnight, Fowler Grove went from "the place with the ER" to "the hospital."
What's Actually Inside Right Now
As of May 2026, AdventHealth Winter Garden is a 96-bed full-service hospital operating as a department of AdventHealth Orlando:
- 24/7 emergency department — primary stroke center, with board-certified ER physicians including pediatric coverage
- Inpatient services — the medical-surgical units that opened in 2022, supporting cardiology, advanced gynecology, spine health, and digestive care
- Inpatient and outpatient surgery — operating rooms in the tower plus the original outpatient surgery center
- Medical imaging — wide-bore MRI, CT, and digital mammography
- Multi-specialty clinic on the third floor and the AdventHealth Medical Office Building next door at 2200 Fowler Grove, with cardiology, endocrinology, orthopedics, GI, urology, dermatology, OB/GYN, oncology, pediatrics, and primary care
- Free on-site parking and complimentary Wi-Fi
The hospital is also designated as a Stroke Center, meaning EMS routes stroke patients here directly rather than driving farther.
The Big Story: What's Opening in 2026
AdventHealth has roughly $188 million of construction happening on this campus right now, split across two projects.
The $145 Million Tower Expansion
The original four-story patient tower is being capped with three additional floors to seven stories total — about 105,000 new square feet. The expansion topped out in July 2025, with completion scheduled for September 2026 according to Florida YIMBY.
The headline addition is labor and delivery — the first time families will be able to deliver babies in West Orange County without driving to AdventHealth Orlando or Orlando Health Winnie Palmer. The new women's services floor includes nine labor-and-delivery rooms, 10 postpartum beds, two C-section operating rooms, and shell space reserved for a future Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The expansion also adds 80 inpatient beds (40 active at opening, 40 in shell space) and a 40-bed progressive care unit. Licensed capacity will jump from 96 to 176 beds.
The $43.2 Million Cancer Institute
On the same campus, a separate three-story, 60,000-square-foot AdventHealth Cancer Institute is rising. It topped out in February 2026 and is targeting a summer 2026 opening with radiation oncology, medical oncology, PET imaging, and an Eden Spa and Boutique offering post-mastectomy fittings, wig services, and other patient support. Having full oncology care on-campus rather than driving to downtown Orlando quietly reshapes daily life for families dealing with a diagnosis.
Why This Matters If You Live in West Orange County
Hospital proximity isn't usually top of the list when you're house-hunting. Until it is. AdventHealth Winter Garden sits on Fowler Grove Boulevard off SR 429, within 5 to 15 minutes of most high-growth communities in the area.
Approximate drive times:
- Hamlin Town Center / Horizon West — under 10 minutes via New Independence Parkway
- Downtown Winter Garden — 8–12 minutes via SR 429 or Plant Street
- Ocoee — 12–15 minutes via SR 429 or Daniels Road
- Windermere — 15–20 minutes via Conroy-Windermere or SR 535
- Oakland and Winter Garden's western edge — 10–15 minutes via SR 50
It's not the only option in West Orange — Orlando Health Health Central in Ocoee is the longstanding full-service hospital here, and Orlando Health Horizon West Hospital opened more recently on the southern Horizon West side. AdventHealth Winter Garden adds a third option, particularly convenient for the Hamlin / eastern Winter Garden / SR 429 corridor — the part of the county that has grown the fastest and historically had the longest drive to a hospital.
Pros and Cons for Nearby Homeowners
The Pros
- Full-service hospital with 24/7 ER on the SR 429 corridor — no more 20-minute drives to Health Central or downtown
- Labor and delivery arriving in 2026 — a real differentiator for families currently driving to Winnie Palmer
- On-campus oncology care opening summer 2026 shortens treatment-day commutes
- Integrated with AdventHealth's network — patients can transfer to AdventHealth Orlando for specialty care not yet on this campus
- Free parking and a calmer footprint than a downtown medical center
The Cons
- Active construction through 2026 — expect occasional traffic shifts on Fowler Grove and crane sightings nearby
- Specialty services like Level I trauma and complex cardiac surgery still route to AdventHealth Orlando or other downtown hospitals
- Surrounding neighborhoods are still mid-build-out, so connecting roads evolve year over year
- Helipad operations come with the territory — generally infrequent but worth noting if you're noise-sensitive
Getting There and What to Know Before You Go
The hospital is at 2000 Fowler Grove Boulevard, Winter Garden, FL 34787. Main: 407-614-0500; ER: 407-614-0505. The site sits just east of SR 429, with access from the Stoneybrook West Parkway / New Independence Parkway corridor that connects to SR 50 (West Colonial Drive) to the north.
For specialist appointments (cardiology, GI, OB/GYN, urology, oncology, pediatrics, and more), most clinic visits are at the AdventHealth Medical Office Building Winter Garden at 2200 Fowler Grove — next door. Don't accidentally drive to the wrong one.
What the Locals Know
The quietly important thing about AdventHealth Winter Garden isn't the building or the bed count — it's what it represents. For the first decade Hamlin and the SR 429 side existed as a residential boom area, the answer for serious illness was "drive to Ocoee" or "drive downtown." That's no longer true. By the end of 2026, this campus will deliver babies, treat cancer, perform inpatient surgery, and operate a stroke-center ER — all within ten minutes of most homes in the corridor.
If you're weighing communities in Hamlin, Horizon West, Winter Garden, or eastern Ocoee, knowing a real, growing hospital sits at the spine of SR 429 changes the calculus a little. It shouldn't be why you pick a neighborhood — but you'll be glad it's there at 2 a.m. on a Saturday when you actually need it. 🏥
