Winter Garden Youth Sports: City Fields, Little League, Pop Warner, and the YMCA

The short version: the City of Winter Garden owns the fields. Most of the actual leagues — basketball, football, baseball, and older soccer divisions — are run by independent nonprofits that use city facilities. The exception is the city's own Youth Soccer League at Braddock Park, a Saturday-morning institution since 2009. Below, sport by sport.
Soccer: The City League at Braddock Park
The City of Winter Garden Recreation Department's Youth Soccer League is the one major youth sport the city operates directly. Games are at Braddock Park, 13460 Lake Butler Boulevard — a 20-acre complex with two multi-purpose fields built for the league. It runs for kids up to age 12, with Saturday games and a fall/spring rhythm. At its five-year mark in 2014, the league had roughly 550 kids per season.
Registration is through enroll.wgplay.com; the Parks and Recreation office at 407-656-4155 handles questions. Kids who age out at 13 typically jump to a club program — Firestorm FC was founded in 2017 to fill exactly that gap — or to a regional travel club. Older recreational players can also look at Roper YMCA's soccer league.
Baseball: Winter Garden Little League
Baseball runs through Winter Garden Little League — an independent volunteer-run Little League International charter. It plays at the Sam Williams Little League Complex, 415 South Park Avenue, across from Veterans Memorial Park. The fields are city-owned; the league is its own 501(c)(3).
WGLL runs the standard Little League progression — Tee Ball, Minor, Major, Junior, Senior divisions, and a Challenger Division for kids with physical or developmental challenges. Spring is the marquee season; fall is shorter. The summer All-Star tournament feeds the Little League World Series qualifier path. Football: The West Orange Wildcats (Pop Warner)
Tackle football means the West Orange Wildcats, the local Pop Warner Little Scholars program founded in 1981 under Mid-Florida Pop Warner. The Wildcats represent Winter Garden, Windermere, and Oakland, and they're the primary youth feeder for West Orange High School football — a forty-year pipeline.
Home games are at Walker Football Field, sharing the 415 South Park Avenue complex with WGLL. A cheer and dance program runs alongside football; both register at leagues.bluesombrero.com/westorangewildcats, with sign-ups in late spring for the fall season. Families who prefer flag football have third-party options — i9 Sports, BNA Sports, and others — at private and school facilities across West Orange.
Basketball: Roper YMCA and BNA Sports
This is the one most newcomers get wrong. The City of Winter Garden does not currently run a stand-alone city-operated youth basketball league. Outdoor courts at Maple Street, Chapin Station, and Veterans Memorial are open for pickup play, but for an organized league families go to one of two places:
- Roper YMCA at Marshall Farms Road and Windermere Road runs basketball for ages 3 through 15 — rec league, clinics, and a Basketball Skills Academy. It's the closest thing Winter Garden has to a "city basketball league" experience, and Y membership opens up soccer and volleyball too.
- BNA Sports, a Central Florida youth-sports nonprofit, runs co-ed basketball for ages 3 to 12 (Pre-K through 5th grade), including an all-girls "#SheIsFly" division. Games are at Water Spring Middle School in Horizon West — a short drive south.
For high schoolers, the path is open tryouts at West Orange High School (the Warriors, since 1975) and SunRidge Middle School.
The Other City Programs Worth Knowing
The City's Parks and Recreation Department runs several programs from the Jessie Brock Community Center, 310 N. Dillard Street, that don't fit the four traditional sports but are real options:
- Amazing Athletes — multi-sport intro class for ages 18 months through 5 years, eight-week sessions, indoor. Covers soccer, basketball, football, and volleyball fundamentals in a non-competitive setting.
- Karate Zoo — progression-based martial arts for ages 3 through 6, eight-week sessions.
- Youth Running & Conditioning — three-week course for ages 5 through 16.
- Pickleball 101 / 102 / Advancement — courses at Veterans Memorial Park, ages 7 and up.
- Esports / Fortnite — yes, a competitive esports program for ages 8 through 14.

City Facilities That Host All of It
Five city-owned facilities do most of the heavy lifting for organized youth sports in Winter Garden:

What the Locals Know
A few things that don't show up on any registration page. The Walker Field / Sam Williams complex on South Park Avenue is the heartbeat of the city's traditional youth sports scene — Friday-night Pop Warner games in the fall, Little League opening day in the spring, the same families showing up for both. Drop in on a Saturday in October if you want a fast read on whether you'll like raising kids in this town.
The Roper YMCA quietly fills the basketball gap the city doesn't cover, and its location near Horizon West pulls families from both communities. The economics tend to favor families who'll use the pool and wellness facilities too.
City programs are best thought of as preschool samplers (Amazing Athletes, Karate Zoo) or rec-league soccer for the K–6 set.
