What it is is one of the most strategically placed pockets of Orlando for a great night out, because almost everything you'd want is either inside the neighborhood or a 10-minute drive away. The MetroWest Date Night Anchor: Teak Neighborhood Grill
If you ask 10 MetroWest residents where to take a date that isn't a chain, at least 7 will say Teak Neighborhood Grill. Tucked into the ground floor of The Hamptons condo complex at 6400 Times Square Avenue, it's been the de facto neighborhood bar and grill since 2010. Two Culinary Institute of America grads run it — which shows up in the menu of 37 handcrafted burgers (19 on a "secret menu"), wood-fired flatbreads, an evolving cocktail program, and 57 beers on tap.
The vibe is the selling point: large covered back patio, live music several nights a week, late kitchen hours (until 12:30 a.m. on weekends), and a happy hour from 4–7 p.m. and again from 10 p.m. to midnight. Lively, not romantic-quiet, but for a casual date with good food and good cocktails, it's the easiest yes in MetroWest.
Other In-Neighborhood Dining Worth Knowing
MetroWest's dining bench is shorter than Dr. Phillips' or Downtown's, but deeper than people give it credit for — and most of it clusters around MetroWest Village and the Hiawassee Road corridor:
- El Toque Restaurant (6405 Raleigh Street) — Venezuelan-inspired with arepas, cachapas, and one of the best Cuban black bean soups in west Orlando. Casual, generous portions.
- A Brasileira — Brazilian food and a small bar program, popular with MetroWest's Brazilian community. Live music some weekends.
- Florida Tap Room — Local pub with rotating beer taps and jukebox. Not a "special occasion" choice, but a great pre-or-post-Teak landing spot.
- Mikado Sushi and Surah — Reliable sushi and Korean BBQ just outside the MetroWest boundary on Kirkman, both within a 5-minute drive.

The Sunset-Round-Plus-Dinner Move: MetroWest Golf Club
One of the more underrated date nights in west Orlando is a twilight round at MetroWest Golf Club followed by dinner at Westerly's, the on-site restaurant. The course is a public Robert Trent Jones Sr. signature design at 2100 South Hiawassee Road — par 72, 7,051 yards from the back tees, with elevation changes uncommon for Florida (about 100 feet across the layout). It opened in 1987 and underwent a $1.5 million renovation in 2013.
Twilight rates drop after 2 p.m., the late-afternoon light on Lake Hiawassee is the best in the neighborhood, and you can roll straight from the 18th green to Westerly's. Even if you don't play, the clubhouse and restaurant are open to non-golfers. The course also doubles as a popular wedding venue — which tells you something about the setting.
When You Want Upscale: Restaurant Row Is 10 Minutes South
Let's be real — sometimes "casual neighborhood grill" isn't the assignment. For anniversaries, birthdays, or the kind of date that needs a wine list with more than two pages, MetroWest's superpower is that you're 4 to 6 miles from Restaurant Row in Dr. Phillips. That's 10 to 15 minutes via Kirkman Road south or Conroy Road west.
Restaurant Row is a one-mile stretch of Sand Lake Road between I-4 and Apopka-Vineland with 30+ upscale restaurants across five centers — The Fountains, The Rialto, Plaza Venezia, Dr. Phillips Marketplace, and Dellagio. Movie Theaters Near MetroWest
MetroWest itself doesn't have a cinema, but four solid options sit within a 5–15 minute drive:
- AMC West Oaks 14 (9415 W. Colonial Drive, Ocoee) — Closest mainstream multiplex, about 4 miles north. Stadium seating, full bar.
- Universal Cinemark at CityWalk (6000 Universal Blvd) — About 5 miles south. Great for a movie-plus-CityWalk-stroll evening.
- West Orange Cinema (1575 Maguire Road, Ocoee) — Family-run, beer and wine, in-theater dining, cheaper tickets. Underrated local gem.
- Cinepolis Luxury Cinemas Hamlin (14111 Shoreside Way, Horizon West) — About 12 miles west. Full-recline leather seats, in-theater dining, full bar. Worth the drive.

The Mall at Millenia sits about 5 miles east of MetroWest (10–12 minutes via Conroy Road and I-4), and it's the obvious move for a window-shopping-and-cocktails kind of evening. Anchors include Neiman Marcus, Macy's, Apple, Tiffany & Co., and Louis Vuitton; in-mall dining includes The Capital Grille, Brio, and the Cheesecake Factory.
Downtown Orlando for a Bigger Night
When you want the full evening — cocktails, late dinner, a show at the Dr. Phillips Center — Downtown Orlando is about 9 miles east on the 408 Expressway, roughly 15 minutes outside of rush hour. Bring SunPass; the 408 is tolled.
The Pros and Cons of Date Night in MetroWest
The Pros:
- Strategic location — Universal Orlando, Restaurant Row, Mall at Millenia, and Downtown Orlando all sit within a 15-minute radius
- Teak Neighborhood Grill alone gives you a legitimate in-neighborhood go-to
- MetroWest Golf Club offers the rare urban-Orlando combo of public golf, sunset views, and an on-site restaurant
- Diverse dining reflects MetroWest's international population — Venezuelan, Brazilian, Korean, sushi
The Cons:
- No true fine-dining option inside MetroWest — drive to Dr. Phillips or downtown for that
- No movie theater or walkable nightlife strip in-neighborhood; everything requires a car
- Some older shopping plazas around MetroWest Village have struggled with tenant turnover

The smart MetroWest date night isn't trying to be Dr. Phillips. It leans into what the neighborhood does well — a great gastropub, a sunset-friendly golf course, easy access to everything else.
