Metrowest was developed starting in the 1980's and provides a mixed-use community with residential, retail, business and entertainment. The guidelines for the community are rather strict when it comes to architecture of homes and buildings.
MetroWest is also known for the diligent landscaping and environmental cleanliness. In fact, the neighborhood has earned awards, such as the 2014 Safety and Security Award from the Florida Communities of Excellence and the Orlando's City Beautiful Award.
One of the major features of MetroWest is the golf club. It opened in 1987 and provides an 18-hole golf course designed by Robert Trend Jones, Sr. It's managed and operated by Marriot Golf and was voted as one of the best public golf courses in all of Orlando.The course measures 7,051 yards from the back tees and provides a beautiful round of golf with 100 foot elevation, water hazards and well-sculpted bunkers. MetroWest Golf Club has hosted events, such as the Oldsmobile Scramble, Senior PGA qualifying school and the PGA Tour qualifying school.
Homes found in the MetroWest neighborhood were built mainly between 1995 and 2002. Some newer homes have filled in empty lots, as well. There are about 5,200 homes throughout the area, along with condos and townhomes. The price range for the neighborhood starts as low as $100,000 and goes up to more than $500,000.
The homes in MetroWest include some upscale single-family homes, as well. Some of the homes are rather large and provide plenty of luxurious amenities. Other homes throughout the area are more affordable, such as townhomes and condos. However, the single-family homes provide the most space.
While the golf course is one of the major amenities of MetroWest, it's not the only one. MetroWest is also full of great shops and restaurants. The MetroWest Village area provides plenty of great choices for residents to enjoy. The neighborhood is also only 9 miles from downtown Orlando, which provides plenty of entertainment, shopping and dining options. Of course, many other major attracts are just a short drive away.
Public schools serving the neighborhood include MetroWest Elementary, Gotha Middle and Olympia High schools. Valencia College also serves the area and won an award as the top community college nationwide in 2011 from the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program. Some of the middle school students also attend Chain of Lakes Middle School in Windermere.
