It is the first labor and delivery unit in West Orange County and is part of a $145 million, 105,000-square-foot patient tower expansion that adds three floors to the hospital, bringing total capacity to 176 licensed beds. The maternity floor includes 9 labor, delivery, and recovery rooms, 10 postpartum beds, 2 cesarean section operating rooms, and reserved shell space for a future Level II NICU. If you're an expectant parent in Winter Garden, Horizon West, Ocoee, Windermere, or Gotha, you've probably had this conversation: "Where are we actually delivering this baby?" The honest answer, until now, has been a 25 to 45-minute drive — not exactly comforting when contractions are five minutes apart.
That changes in 2026. AdventHealth Winter Garden is adding a full maternity floor as part of a $145 million tower expansion — the first labor and delivery facility ever located in West Orange County. For an area delivering more than 6,000 babies a year while sending most of those families out of town to do it, this is a pretty big deal.
What's Actually Being Built
The expansion adds three new floors on top of the existing four-story tower, taking AdventHealth Winter Garden to seven stories. The new construction totals roughly 105,000 square feet and adds 80 inpatient beds — 40 active at opening and another 40 already built as shell space. When fully online, the hospital grows to 176 licensed beds.
An entire floor is dedicated to women's services. The Baby Place includes:
- 9 labor, delivery, and recovery (LDR) rooms — labor, deliver, and recover in the same suite
- 10 postpartum beds
- 2 dedicated cesarean section operating rooms
- Reserved shell space for a future Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
One important note: the Level II NICU isn't open day one. Babies needing higher-acuity newborn care will still be transferred to the Level III or Level IV NICUs at AdventHealth Orlando, but the building is designed to add that capability when volume justifies it.
Why This Matters: The 6,000-Baby Problem
According to the Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration, more than 6,000 babies are born to families in West Orange and South Lake counties every year — and the majority of those deliveries currently take place outside those counties.
Geographically, that makes sense but isn't great for families. A Horizon West family today has three realistic options: AdventHealth Orlando (20-30 minutes east), AdventHealth Celebration (15-25 minutes south), or Orlando Health Horizon West Hospital, which has the closest L&D and a Level II NICU but sits on the southern edge of the area. From Winter Garden proper or Clermont, all three become a real drive — especially during rush hour.
None of this is a knock on the existing hospitals. The point is that maternity care has been one of the few major healthcare gaps in West Orange County, even as the population exploded. AdventHealth Winter Garden filling that gap is less "new amenity" and more "overdue infrastructure catching up to growth."
When Does It Actually Open?
AdventHealth's target is summer 2026. Construction broke ground in May 2024, the patient tower hit structural topping-out in July 2025, and as of early 2026 the project is in the interior buildout, MEP, and final exterior enclosure phase. Recent reporting from Florida YIMBY tracks completion closer to September 2026.
Either way — summer or early fall — the Baby Place is expected to welcome its first patients in 2026. Hospital leadership has been actively recruiting OB/GYNs, midwives, and L&D nurses for months in anticipation. If you're due in late 2026 or 2027 and live in West Orange County, this is an option worth keeping on your radar.
How It Fits Into the AdventHealth for Women Network
The Baby Place isn't a new brand — it's a network. Existing locations include AdventHealth Orlando (with a Level IV NICU), AdventHealth Celebration, AdventHealth Altamonte Springs, AdventHealth Winter Park, and AdventHealth Daytona Beach. Winter Garden becomes the newest addition and the only one currently planned for West Orange County.
Practically, that means families delivering at Winter Garden will have access to the same Birth Experience Coordinators, parent education programs, and Baby Place Academy classes as the other locations. AdventHealth for Women is also the only health care network nationally recognized for women's care in Greater Orlando.
The Realistic Pros and Cons for Local Families
The Pros
- Drive time. For most West Orange County families, this cuts the trip to L&D from 25-45 minutes down to 10-20 minutes.
- Modern facility. Brand-new equipment and a single-room LDR model designed around current best practices.
- Network access. Same Baby Place programming and AdventHealth for Women resources as Orlando or Celebration.
- Future capacity. The Level II NICU shell space lets the facility scale without another major construction project.
The Honest Cons
- No Level II NICU at opening. If you're high-risk, your OB may still recommend AdventHealth Orlando (Level IV NICU) or Orlando Health Horizon West (Level II NICU) until Winter Garden's NICU activates.
- 9 LDR rooms is modest. For an area generating 6,000+ births annually, capacity will be a real factor — though Winter Garden won't capture all of that volume right away.
- Brand new. Some families prefer the operational track record of an established L&D unit.
- Timing risk. If construction slips, the opening could push later in 2026.
What This Means for the Wider Healthcare Picture
Adding L&D in Winter Garden shifts the regional healthcare map. Orlando Health Horizon West Hospital remains the closest full-service hospital with maternity services for southern Horizon West, and Orlando Health — Health Central Hospital in Ocoee stays the go-to for general full-service care across most of West Orange County. AdventHealth Winter Garden becomes the dedicated maternity option in a market that previously had none of its own.
The broader campus expansion also brings new operating rooms, 40 additional progressive care beds, and a separate $43.2 million Cancer Institute opening on the same campus in 2026 — combined investment of roughly $188 million and 100+ new healthcare jobs.

AdventHealth Winter Garden sits at 2000 Fowler Grove Boulevard in Winter Garden, just off SR 429 near Winter Garden Village at Fowler Groves. Approximate drive times:
- Winter Garden / Horizon West: 5-15 minutes
- Ocoee: 10-15 minutes via SR 429 or West Colonial Drive
- Windermere or Gotha: 15-20 minutes
- Clermont: 15-25 minutes via Florida's Turnpike or US 27
