Lake County Communities

One of the counties found within the Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford Metropolitan area, Lake County includes the cities of Tavares and Clermont. It's located to the west of Downtown Orlando. As the name implies, Lake County is home to more than 1,000 lakes covering over 200 square miles of water. Compared to the rest of Florida, Lake County has a very different type of terrain. While Florida is known as mostly flat, Lake County has some of the highest elevations in the state.

Things to Do in Lake County

With so many lakes found throughout, Lake County is most known for the many water activities. It's home to the Harris Chain of Lakes, which covers more than 50,000 acres of space and connects to the Atlantic Ocean through the Ocklawaha and St. John's Rivers. Fishing, boating, jet skiing, and many other water activities are very popular throughout the county. While lakes dominate the area, there are plenty of things to do on land, as well. Lake County is known as a popular place for bird watching, equestrian activities, and hiking. There are plenty of natural areas to enjoy throughout the county. Golf is another very popular choice throughout Lake County and some of the area's finest courses are found here. Aviation is also rather large in Lake County with the Leesburg International Airport and the Tavares Seaplane Base.
