The county in Florida with the highest percentage of residents 65 years old or older is Sumter County. It's home to Bushnell and The Villages, which is a massive 55 and older community.

Sumter County is located to the northwest of Orlando. It's about 56 miles from downtown Orlando and about 62 miles from downtown Tampa. The location is also just south of Ocala, Florida.

Dade Battlefield Historic State Park is found here with plenty of history to explore. The park offers a visitor’s center, plenty of wildlife throughout, and a battlefield you can enjoy.

Plenty of recreation is found throughout with air boating tours, aviation lessons, baseball, basketball, boating, camping, fishing, golf, equestrian activities, and so much more. No matter the type of activity you enjoy doing; you're likely to find it in Sumter County, Florida.

With such a large number of retirees throughout, the county is home to many shopping centers, restaurants, entertainment options, and flea markets. Several theaters are found throughout including the Barnstorm Theater and The Studio Theatre. Residents can also enjoy many other entertainment options including the Backyard Barn Winery and Microbrewery, Sharon L. Morse Performing Arts Centers, and several town squares and town centers with entertainment options.

While the county offers several town squares with shopping, dining, and entertainment, it's also known for the flea and farmers' markets. The Sumter County Farmers Market is known as the largest and oldest in Florida. In addition, the county is home to the Webster’s Flea Market District, which offers another one of the oldest and largest in the state.
