Choosing to settle in Fort Meade means you want a smaller community to call home. It's not the largest community, but it's close enough to larger cities to enjoy them when you want to. Living in Fort Meade offers a good location and plenty of things to do within driving distance.
Where is Fort Meade, FL?
Found to the south of Lakeland, Fort Meade is a Central Florida community in Polk County. It's about 23 miles from Lakeland and about 22 miles from Winter Haven. Tampa is found about 57 miles from the community, while Orlando is about 74 miles away.
Fort Meade even provides access to Fort Myers, which is about 85 miles from the community. Several wonderful attractions are within driving distance and many smaller communities are found just outside Fort Meade, as well.
Homes for Sale in Fort Meade
Offering plenty of affordable homes, Fort Meade is made up of mainly single-family residences. Some of the homes are smaller with just two bedrooms and one bathroom. However, larger homes are also found here with four bedrooms and three bathrooms.
The average home in Fort Mead has about three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Homes can range anywhere from about 1,000 square feet to more than 4,000 square feet in Fort Meade. Most of the homes are more affordable than other nearby communities.
Things to Do in Fort Meade, Florida
There are plenty of things to do in Fort Meade. The city was designated as a Blueway community in 2011 by the Florida Paddlers Association. The Fort Meade Outdoor Recreation Area is a big part of why.
This recreation area offers a launching and pick-up site for canoes and kayaks. It's also the site of the annual Peace River Paddle, which is hosted by the Florida Paddlers Association.
Fort Meade is also home to the W. Henry Lewis House Historical Marker and several other historical homes. Patterson Park is another popular area for residents to enjoy. It's a park with a lake and plenty of things for the entire family to enjoy.
The park dates back to 1827 and offers an observatory pagoda-style building, along with several other attractions. Residents can enjoy the marble fountain. Pulaski Monument, and plenty of natural areas throughout. Sports fields, pathways for jogging, and a fenced-in dog park are also found here.
Charleston Avenue or Highway 17 runs through the city and offers plenty of places to dine and shop just off the main road. It's also where you will find the Fort Meade Community Center, which provides some things to do for residents.
This city is also home to the Streamsong Resort. This golf and spa resort offers plenty of things to do for guests with a 228room hotel, three golf courses, a spa, and plenty of fishing. You can even enjoy clay-shooting at the resort.
