Daniels Road & Winter Garden-Vineland Road (CR 535): The North-South Arteries
Why Winter Garden has two parallel roads south of SR 50 — and how to use them

Daniels Road and Winter Garden-Vineland Road (CR 535) are two parallel, toll-free, north-south arterials in Winter Garden, FL. Between Winter Garden Village and SR 50, Daniels Road is the primary four-lane arterial and CR 535 runs parallel to the west on a two-lane alignment. South of Winter Garden Village, the route is unified as CR 535, a four-lane road that runs approximately 15 miles to Palm Parkway near Lake Buena Vista. A 2007-08 realignment tied to the Winter Garden Village development connected Winter Garden-Vineland Road seamlessly into Daniels Road north. Daniels Road carries approximately 35,000 vehicles per day at SR 50.
Here's a question that trips up almost everyone moving to Winter Garden: why are there two parallel roads running south from SR 50, and which one are you actually supposed to be on?
Short answer: it depends where you're going. Daniels Road and Winter Garden-Vineland Road (CR 535) look like one road on a map, but they're two separate arterials that merge at Winter Garden Village and split again north of it. Once you understand how they work together, you'll save yourself a lot of "wait, am I on the right road?" moments.
The Two-Road System Explained
Between SR 50 and Winter Garden Village at Fowler Groves, you've got a pair of parallel roads about a quarter-mile apart. Daniels Road is the wider, busier one — four lanes divided, lined with new commercial development, and home to that AdventHealth Winter Garden turn-off everyone knows. CR 535 sits just to the west on a quieter two-lane alignment.
South of Winter Garden Village, the math changes. The two roads merge, and from there CR 535 carries you all the way down through Horizon West and Windermere to Lake Buena Vista — a four-lane arterial the whole way.
Why This Setup Exists
Here's the history that explains it: when Winter Garden Village at Fowler Groves was built in 2007-08, the developers extended and realigned the road network so that Winter Garden-Vineland Road would feed seamlessly into Daniels Road heading north toward SR 50. Daniels Road effectively became the new primary arterial, taking over the role CR 535 used to play.
But CR 535 didn't disappear — it kept its original alignment to the west, still officially the county-maintained road, still signed, still carrying local traffic. So you ended up with a four-lane main route (Daniels) and a two-lane "old route" (CR 535) running side by side for about a mile. Confusing? A little. But once you know which one to use, it works.
When to Use Each Road
Use Daniels Road when:
- You're going to Winter Garden Village, Target, Lowe's, Best Buy, Crooked Can, or anything else in the Fowler Groves footprint
- You're heading to AdventHealth Winter Garden on Fowler Grove Boulevard
- You want the fastest signalized route from SR 50 to the Winter Garden Village area
- You live in Bronson's Landing, Carriage Pointe, Covington Chase, Daniels Crossing, Daniels Landing, or Walkers Grove
Use CR 535 (Winter Garden-Vineland Road) when:
- You're headed south past Winter Garden Village toward Horizon West, Windermere, or Disney
- You're going to Stoneybrook West Parkway and the SR 429 interchange (Exit 19)
- You want the toll-free alternative to SR 429 for southbound trips
The Daniels Road / SR 50 Intersection
If there's a single intersection that defines modern Winter Garden, it's Daniels Road at SR 50 (West Colonial Drive). Daniels Road frontage here carries around 35,000 vehicles per day — putting it in the same range as some of Orlando's busier suburban arterials.
Look around and you'll see why. Walking distance to the north: the big-box retail of the SR 50 corridor. To the south: Winter Garden Village, AdventHealth Winter Garden, and a wave of medical and retail buildings still going up. The Daniels Medical Park at 1219-1239 Daniels Road is one example — a brand-new Class A medical development at the signalized intersection, betting that this corridor isn't done growing yet.
The CR 535 Story South of Town
Once you're past Winter Garden Village heading south, CR 535 becomes the workhorse. We covered the southern half of CR 535 from a Windermere perspective in a separate post, but the short version: it's a 15-mile, four-lane, toll-free shot from Winter Garden down past Windermere High School, Cornerstone at Summerport, Tibet-Butler Preserve, and into Lake Buena Vista. At Palm Parkway it hands off to SR 535 and drops you onto I-4 right at Disney Springs.
For Winter Garden residents, this is the road that connects you to the rest of southwest Orange County without putting a single toll on your SunPass. The SR 429 connection at Stoneybrook West Parkway (Exit 19) gives you the option to jump on the tolled expressway when CR 535 traffic gets heavy.

What the Locals Know
Three things worth knowing once you've lived here a while. First: at rush hour, the Daniels Road / SR 50 light backs up — locals often cut west to Park Avenue or use the CR 535 alignment to bypass it. Second: heading south to Disney, CR 535 plus SR 535 is the only continuous toll-free arterial. Plug "Disney Springs" into your GPS and it'll often try to send you up SR 429 first; ignore it if you're not in a hurry. Third: GPS systems still occasionally confuse the two parallel alignments north of Winter Garden Village — if your route looks weird, glance at the road name on the green sign and trust your eyes over the map.
