Living in the Winter Garden Village Area
The Winter Garden Village Area makes up central Winter Garden and was the first area developed outside of the original Downtown Winter Garden area north of the Florida Turnpike. The area takes its name from Winter Garden Village at Fowler Groves, the open-air shopping center that serves as the central retail hub for this part of the city. South of this area you'll find the newer Horizon West community, which runs from the Winter Garden Village area south down to Disney World.
Comprising more than 40 distinct neighborhoods, most residential development here began in the 1980s and accelerated through the late 2000s with the expansion of the SR 429 expressway and the construction of Winter Garden Village. A handful of homes on remaining rural and lakefront parcels date back to the 1950s, but most properties are suburban-style planned neighborhoods built from the 1990s onward.
Local context: This sub-area sits inside ZIP 34787 but is distinct from the historic Plant Street downtown to the north and from the Horizon West villages to the south. It's defined by its access to the West Orange Trail, the SR 429 interchange, and the Daniels Road retail corridor.
Where Is the Winter Garden Village Area?
The Winter Garden Village Area sits south of the original Winter Garden town center. It's south of the Florida Turnpike and the Downtown Winter Garden area, west of the Windermere community, east of Clermont in Lake County, and north of the Horizon West area.
This entire area was once citrus groves. A series of devastating freezes wiped out much of the local citrus industry, and when the SR 429 expressway was built to create a western loop around Orlando, it opened the land for residential development.
The Florida Turnpike runs east-west along the northern border of the area, and the SR 429 expressway cuts diagonally northeast-to-southwest through its center. Daniels Road merges with Winter Garden Vineland Road near the mall and runs north-south on the eastern side. Avalon Road runs north-south on the western side. Marsh Road, which becomes Stoneybrook West Parkway, runs east-west through the middle of the area.

The Winter Garden Village Area connects easily to the city's flagship outdoor amenities. Newton Park on Lake Apopka sits a short drive north in downtown, and fishing and boating on Lake Apopka is accessible from the same waterfront. The West Orange Trail threads through the area, linking neighborhoods to downtown and west to Oakland.
